These Affirmations For Good Health Help You Say Yes! To Success
When you need a boost in your motivation to eat healthy and exercise, try out some of these affirmations for good health.
She’s one more client certain she needs to do something drastic to improve her health.
At our first appointment, Mindy spoke with fierce determination. “None. None. None!” She promised herself (and me) there would be no more donuts or candy until she lost at least 10 pounds.
My long-time followers know I hate self-imposed deprivation. It rarely works for long, and often it destroys all motivation to eat healthy and exercise. I shared my concerns with Mindy, but she was determined. We decided to see how her dessert ban played out over the next two weeks.
Did the dessert ban work?
You guessed it; it didn’t go well.
She gave in to the office donuts, grabbed candy at the checkout line, and gave into the office donuts again. And again. In retrospect, she wasn’t surprised. Mindy had tried all kinds of strict diet rules in the past. And they never worked for long. Even when she did lose weight following draconian diet rules, she always gained the weight back.
Such a common story, right?
Been there, done that? Lot’s of us have.
Long before Mindy or I ever ate our first donuts, Mark Twain had this all figured out.

Focusing on the negative – or what not to do – rarely brings top-notch results.
THIS can help you achieve that goal
Focus on the positive. Focus on what you want to do and what is true.
We change better when we feel good about ourselves – not when we’re overly self-critical.
First, set reasonable goals.
Then make this tiny tweak to see a big difference in your attitude and your success:
Recite a motivating mantra or an affirmation for good health.
Yes, really. It’s not woo-woo or simply a matter of envisioning something you want and having it manifest at your feet.
You’ve got to believe your affirmation or mantra. Believing it is crucial because we must change our thoughts to change our behavior. Simply reciting “I am pretty,” won’t make me a cover girl. Likewise, glaring at myself in the mirror and saying, “I never eat too many chocolate chip cookies,” isn’t going to work – because it’s a lie.
And if you slip backward on your goals (and we all do), focus on the positive again.
Repeat after me:
We change better when we feel good about ourselves – not when we’re overly self-critical.
And not when we call ourselves lazy or weak-willed. Here’s what to do when lazy infiltrates your mindset.
Affirmations for good health
These will help you boost your motivation to eat healthy and exercise
You’ll probably have to try out several mantras and affirmations for healthy eating before you find a few that resonate with you. I have several I pull from depending on my needs. Some I recite daily or write in my journal as part of my morning ritual. Others, like “failure is my teacher, not my enemy,” I grab when the moment calls for it.
Here are my current top 3:
- I am committed to my goal. (I usually state the goal.)
- I am energy and enthusiasm.
- I rock my day.
All 3 are positive, stated in the present, and help to rewrite self-limiting beliefs. What they are not is something unbelievable like “I eat perfectly every day.” All that would do is set me up to be disappointed in myself. But remember:
We change better when we feel good about ourselves – not when we’re overly self-critical.
Another quick technique with science behind it is a visualization practice. It’s more than just imaging good things happening to you. The WOOP process is a series of 4 steps that take you from dreaming to doing. I wrote about it here, so check it out.
