Healthy Eating Tip: Make the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice
In honor of National Nutrition Month®, my colleague Hope Warshaw shares her tips to help you savor the flavor of eating right.
Make the healthy choice the easy choice
- Shop regularly. Keep healthy foods in stock and at-the-ready to eat. A practice I use to help my family eat more fruit and salads is to keep them cut and ready. When it comes to fruit, I chop oranges, apples, mangos and more and store them in a plastic container. It makes our bowls of fruit topped with Greek yogurt a quick fix in the morning. As for eating more salads, I make up a container of what I’ve nicknamed “salad accessories” – typically it’s red cabbage, cucumbers, carrots, red onion, celery and more. When I want to assemble salads, I take the container of mixed greens and the salad accessories out – and voila, salads. Simple and easy.
- Have the ingredients for 3 to 5 quick to fix favorite healthy meals in stock so you can always come home and pull off dinner.
- Make extras of easy-to-freeze dishes, and stash a meal or two in the freezer.
- When it comes to sweets, don’t deprive yourself. Enjoy only the most delicious ones in small amounts. Savor every morsel of their flavor!
