Healthy Eating Tip: Keep a Clean Eating Shrine on Your Counter Top

Michelle DudashIn honor of National Nutrition Month®, my colleague Michelle Dudash shares her tip to help you savor the flavor of eating right.

Keep a clean eating shrine on your counter top.

This is like the 2.0 version of the good old fruit platter. Choose one with tiered, step-like platters. Display ripe and ready to eat produce in the front, like bananas and avocados. Keep apples and pear on the second tier, and onions, garlic and sweet potatoes in the back on top.

Seeing this beautiful produce display will remind you to grab a piece of fruit, rather than a packaged snack and help you meet your fruit goals for the day. And when you see the fruit, it will remind you that it needs to be eaten soon before it expires. This technique has helped my whole family increase their fruit intake, including my husband who was a non-fruit eater before, and my two-year-old who loves grabbing apples and mandarins from it.
