Be food label savvy

Don’t be fooled by terms on the food label like “organic,” or “local.” Organic foods can come from across the globe (far from local), and local foods can contain more pesticides than you’d prefer. Check food labels to see what you’re really getting, and rely on the green and white organic seal to help you determine if the product you’re buying is truly organic. Most importantly, be sure to include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet, two food categories that the majority of Americans lack.

Is water your go-to drink?

Feeling tired and listless? You could be dehydrated! The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommendation to choose water as your go-to beverage was made for good reason: water provides a healthy, low-cost beverage option. After all, there is no product out there that has no calories, no fat, no carbs, no gluten, no preservatives, no additives, and no sodium and yet…provides so many benefits. Drinking water as your beverage of choice not only provides the benefits of water, but it also takes the place of less healthy, sugary beverages you may have otherwise chosen.
