Friday Food Finds: Healthy Frozen Pizza

The crust is sooooo crispy! And even though this Veggie Lover’s Pizza is frozen, it tastes so fresh. Veggie lovers and pizza lovers can bond over this healthy frozen pizza. Great job Sweet Earth!

Healthy Frozen Pizza with ingredients

This healthy frozen pizza helps you get your plant slant on!

I only recently discovered the Sweet Earth brand of frozen foods. I was 1 of a dozen or so lucky registered dietitian nutritionists to be invited to the Nestlé offices in Ohio. It was a fast-paced 1 ½ days of touring, tasting, talking and learning.

Nestlé owns a lot of brands that reach different types of consumers. Nespresso is probably the one I reach for most often (no surprise to anyone who knows about my love for espresso), but I am sure glad to learn about some of the others, including Sweet Earth. Sweet Earth’s mission is threefold: 1) to honor and sustain the land 2) to cultivate a curious mind and palate (yep, you got me) and 3) to sustain a healthy body. They make a variety of products including artisan bowls, breakfast burritos (I tasted and liked these too) and veggie burgers. These are my kind of convenience foods and are perfect for busy people.

A healthy frozen pizza

I call the Veggie Lover’s a healthy pizza because of the wholesome ingredients and nutrition profile. The crust contains wheat, corn, chia seeds and carrots. The toppings include broccoli, Brussels sprouts, corn, tomatoes, garlic, red onions, vegan cheese and more. When I made it at home, I added some feta cheese, which of course, makes it no longer a vegan dish. The saturated fat and sodium counts are relatively low, and the fiber is high. Their other pizzas contain regular cheese, but the Veggie Lovers has no animal products at all, so it will be great for your vegan friends and family members.

If food doesn’t taste good, it’s probably not nutritious because it’s likely to end up in the trash instead of in someone’s belly. So not to worry, this is a great tasting, healthy frozen pizza.

For another take on healthy pizza, see my Scooped French Bread Pizza, which is also deliciously crispy. And I have 2 easy-to-make flatbread recipes on the blog too: Ricotta, Caramelized Onion and Fig Flatbread and Tomato and Goat Cheese-Walnut Pesto Flatbread. These flatbreads are two reasons that I LOVE summer.

Cheers to delicious food and to being busy and healthy!
