In honor of National Nutrition Month®, my colleague Melissa Joy Dobbins shares her tip to help you savor the flavor of eating right.

How Can YOU Savor the Flavor of Eating Right? Do M.O.R.E. with Dinner!™

Every day we’re bombarded with news reports and “advice” on how to eat healthier, exercise more, lose weight, be a better parent/spouse/friend. There seems to always be so much more we are supposed to be doing. It’s truly overwhelming. But at the end of the day, it really isn’t about doing more, it’s about making more out of each day.

As a registered dietitian and a busy mom, I’m just like most people – struggling to be healthier and happier, to connect with loved ones, to be more present, and to get more (or make more) out of each day. That’s why I created “Do M.O.R.E. with Dinner” and started to explore all the ways my family could take this ordinary daily ritual and make it extraordinary.

Melissa DobbinsThere are so many ways we can do more with dinner! Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Make memories by finding new ways to foster meaningful conversations during dinner. Try the “rose/bud/thorn” idea. Each person shares their rose (best part of day), their thorn (worst part of day) and their bud (what they are looking forward to).
  • Try a new recipe or make some healthy tweaks to a family favorite. Check out my Pinterest page for recipes and modification tips.
  • Get your kids in the kitchen to have some fun while learning important skills.
  • Plan ahead to save time and money at the grocery store.
  • Boost your family’s nutrient intake by having healthy snacks on hand.
