You'll please both vegetarians and meat-lovers with this spicy, chewy recipe. Marinate the tofu for 30 minutes to a full day. I've found a couple hours is perfect!
1poundsuper firm, high protein tofu or other firm tofu
5tablespoonssriracha sauceor use 3-4 tablespoons sriracha sauce + 1-2 tablespoons water to lessen the spiciness.
4tablespoons olive oil
3garlic cloves, crushed or chopped
1tablespoon brown sugar
⅓cupchopped fresh cilantro
¼teaspoon salt
Instructions
Wrap the tofu in paper towels and press it between a plate and a heavy pot to remove the excess water.
Meanwhile combine the remaining ingredients in a bowl to make the marinade.
Slice the pressed tofu into approximately 16 planks, and combine the tofu and the marinade in a plastic bag. You may need to move the tofu slices around carefully to cover each piece with the marinade. Refrigerate until ready to cook. Periodically, turn the bag over to be sure the marinade fully flavors each piece of tofu.
Preheat oven to 400°F and line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil. Carefully place the sliced tofu onto the baking sheet and pour remaining marinade on top. Bake for about 15 minutes. Using tongs, turn each piece over and continue baking for another 15 minutes. Serve with additional chopped cilantro.
Notes
Watch out! Some brands of sriracha sauce can light your mouth on fire. Depending on the brand you choose, you may want to water it down a bit. I use 5 tablespoons of a mild sauce or 3 tablespoons super spicy sauce + 2 tablespoons water.
